The Trans-Canada Highway (Hwy #17), which spans the country from coast to coast, passes through the city in the form of a multi-lane roadway. Referred to as Hwy #417 on a roadmap, it begins west of the city and stretches eastward to the Quebec border near Montreal.

From Montreal, follow Hwy #40 west to the Ontario Border where it then becomes Hwy #417. This will then take you directly to Ottawa. Travel time from Montreal is approximately 2.5 hours. From Western Quebec, follow any one of the following; Hwys 5, 50, 105 or 148 towards Gatineau. There you will find a number of bridge options crossing into Ottawa.
